If you just need one for depdendency resolution, then you can use
Maven central.
However if you need a Nexus instance to deploy your own artifacts (and
i assume this is what you need since you possibly want to share your
artifacts with your colleagues), you can't use Maven central (except
you develop only open source applications which apply to the licenses
of Maven central).
But i would recommend to get a small server or virtual server and
install Nexus there. It don't have to be a monster server, you should
get something appropriate for 20, 30 $/month.
