Thank you both for your help. Unfortunatelly, neither seems to be the case.

 * dependency:tree confirmed that version 1.2.17 is beeing used indeed
(log4j:log4j:jar:1.2.17:compile),
 * I have verified that the import statement is correct (import
org.apache.log4j.Logger;).
