Currently in the maven 1.x codebase no, there isn't. When more of the
2.x code is integrated into the 1.x codebase this will technically be
possible but it is really a matter of policy. I don't think it is
something that would really be encouraged. That said it won't be anytime
soon that those portions of 2.x will be backported to 1.x so you're on
your own.
