But I thought expression="" was used to put vm args and other
environmental values into a parameter. In fact, this is what I do for

    /**
     * @parameter expression="${localRepository}"
     */
    protected ArtifactRepository localRepository;


But everywhere else, I want to set the values from the pom.xml file of
the evoking module, because that is where the application context will
be known. I suppose I could set up a separate properties file and pull
the values in through expressions, but I think that's a cheat,
particularly as the doco at

http://maven.apache.org/guides/plugin/guide-java-plugin-development.html

Clearly implies that you can set the values of the paramters through the
pom.
