I assume you didn't have any version of OpenOffice.org (Apache OpenOffice or LibreOffice) on the machine before installing AOO 3.4.1.
It sounds like first-run doesn't get far enough to create a profile. Does the account you were using the first time you started Apache OpenOffice an administrator account? In Windows Explorer (the first application after the browser on your desktop start bar) look to see if C:\Users\<your id>\App Data\Roaming\OpenOffice.org\3\user\registrymodifications.xcu is there. App Data is a hidden directory, but if you type the above through ... App Data\ in the Explorer address bar, you should get there. Then click through the other folders. If the path is not there, let me know. Oh, and did you see the OpenOffice tiles on the Windows 8 Start Screen after the install completed? - Dennis -----Original Message----- From: Dan Cowell [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, April 04, 2013 14:28 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Open office issues. Hi Dennis, I appreciate your help, I did the typical download from the official open office website through my desktop with no issues. I don’t have Java or any special virus protection. I assume it is en-us as I didn't change any settings. Although I am in Australia, I don’t know if that makes a difference. I was told about resetting the user file but I’m I can't seem to find the file. It’s not in any of the locations I was told. Thanks again for all your help. Sent from Windows Mail From: Dennis E. There were no problems, and AOO 3.4.1 did not create any sort of uncaught exception. It starts just fine. Questions for Daniel: 1. Did you request download at http://openoffice.org ? It is important that you obtain an authentic download from the primary download location. (SourceForge will appear and initiate your download.) 2. Did the download happen with your built-in Internet Explorer on the desktop? 3. Are you using the standard en-US default? 4. Did you do the "typical" or "custom" install? 5. Do you know if Java is installed on your machine? (My Windows 8 Pro was an update of Windows 7, yours is an OEM install of Windows 8 Pro - that might be a difference.) Find the Control Panel, go to Programs, and see if there is a Java button there. You can get to the control Panel from the Desktop by right-clicking the lower-left corner - it will be on the pop-up menu. - Dennis -----Original Message----- From: Dennis E. I'll check it on my Windows 8 box. I installed successfully once before. Daniel: Does your Win8 Dell have any special virus protection or other software beyond what is built into Windows 8? - Dennis -----Original Message----- From: Rob Weir [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 03, 2013 06:26 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Open office issues. Microsoft made a special version of Windows 8 for tablets, targeting ARM processors. OpenOffice won't run there. We require x86 or x86-64 processors. -Rob > > Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. > > > > > P.s It runs fine on my windows 7 laptop. > > > > Sent from Windows Mail --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
