Sorry for such an elementary question, but it ain't working for me. I want some spreadsheet cells to display and print a color background. My steps are these: using OO 1.1.0 highlight some cells; click on FORMAT; dbl click on CELLS; click the BACKGROUND tab; select a color (the example box is filled with the chosen color); click OK; no change to spreadsheet - selected cells remain black; Icon on object bar is showing the chosen color: (HELP says click and drag that icon to the selected cells); Left click on the icon and the color palatte is displayed; right click / drag on the icon and nothing happens -- selected fields remain black. What am I doing wrong?? or what am I not doing that I should do??
HELP --- thx Ron Reynolds

Ron:

I don't know what is wrong - I followed your directions and I now have a
nice purple and a nice burgundy cell. What about trying a new
spreadsheet? Are you able to upgrade, although I don't think this
feature is new, but maybe something else is wrong with your version and
this would fix it? What about rebooting? Does that change anything?

It should work, and does work for me.

It works for me (WinXP, OO 1.1.4)
Basic troubleshooting here says:
1. Is it reproducible? - does it happen if I open a new document
2. If so, then can others reproduce it?
3. If no (2) then does a reinstall cure it?

As always, it is important to include the operating system and OO version in the initial request.
