[users] Having trouble with page styles

I'm working on an eBook, which I hope to convert to PDF. In order to 
get the headers to not appear on the title page or at the beginning 
of a section, I'm using different page styles. But I'm not sure how 
to apply them correctly. I open up the stylelist, go to the page I 
want to change the style for, and double-click the style name. This 
seems to cause havoc, because other pages will lose their style and 
revert to something else, usually the style I just clicked on. Is 
there a better way to apply a style to each page?
