Oh NO, this discussion again...
I apologize and will not post to the list any more. I am sorry, I was trying to suggest a possible solution as a reply to some complaints, but it is not really my problem.
Please don't refrain from posting to the list, all contributions are always welcome. As you've seen, the worst that can happen is that you're told the issue you brought up is a bit of a running gag on the list, which is not that bad ;-).
1. It is. Do you know gmane? http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.openoffice.questions
2. He gets it, try sending a message throw a unsubscribed mail to the list.
Well, then everything is fine, isn't it? I just had the impression from previous posts that users do not find the archive and that people feel the need to repost (and others complain then), etc., and I thought there might be ways to improve the situation. Obviously there isn't due to technical limitations (which I did not know).
The main issue is that the people who post without being subscribed usually just got the mailing list address somewhere, without much indication as to what to expect from it (or to the fact that it was a mailing list and not a point of entry to some support group). That lack of information usually means they won't know either of the archive of said mailing list.
Apart from some obvious cases such as the mails where the subject contains the moderated keyword, it's hard for some (myself included) to realise someone is not subscribed, and as such replies get posted to the list only, which won't be much help to the original poster.
Automagically directing unsubscribed users to a point in the OOo list archive pages where they will be able to monitor replies to their particular queries would be nice, but I'm not sure if that can easily be done. In the meantime, I for one do appreciate the efforts of CPH, Tamblyne and others in forwarding the replies to the users and pointing out to them their unsubscribed status. I guess copying the list on such forwards is a way of avoiding duplication of that effort.
