Why use Open Office? I already am familiar with the standard MS products. What are the compelling reasons to use Open Office? Are there advantages over the usual programs? I downloaded the program but i am now asking myself why should i install it when i already have no issues with the existing programs, etc....I work with documents that are sometimes large and contain graphics images. Word 2003 frequently has issues with these documents because of their size; one 57 page document turned a 3 Ghz machine with 2Gig of RAM into a uselessly slow pig. OpenOffice.org had no problems with the document. Frequently, Word has issues with the graphics and they disappear and reappear, it is very strange. I have not had these problems with OpenOffice.org. I have been asked to edit certain documents because I installed OOo so I can deal with these poorly behaved documents when others can not.

I initially started using OpenOffice.org because I have a computer with Linux. Word does not work with Linux. OOo, however, works with other operating systems.
