To whom it may concern:

I trust that this finds you well and in good spirits, and I trust
that you will not take umbrage should this missive have been sent to
the inappropriate discussion group.

Pursuant to the foregoing, I confess that I am a "newbie" and
somewhat at a loss as to where I might obtain help on this issue. I
sent and email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and thus far I have
received no reponse--- this is not a critique, merely a statement of
advisory fact.

By way of preface, the following represent relevant system info:

(I)

My Operating system is Windows 95 Version 4.03.1214, subversion B

(II)

My computer is a Pentium I @ 166mhz with ample free diskspace
and 64meg of RAM

(III)

Microsoft Internet Explorer no longer resides on my computer, just in
case your installation application is dependent upon this software
by some strange quirk

In any event, I shall cut to the chase, as it were...

I tried to install OPenOffice.org.1.0.3 on my system, which
zipped application I downloaded from your "University of Indiana"
link on the download page, and it failed to install properly, leaving
me with no way to uninstall the entries except to manually work my
way through the registry, etc.

Below you will find the pertinent information:

Towards the completion of the installation program, I received the
following notice about unregisterable DLLs: "Could not
register...

     sysdtrans.dll
     calc641mi.dll
     sc641mi.dll
     date641mi.dll
     analysis641mi.dll
     sm641mi.dll
     svg641mi.dll
     ith641mi.dll"

After each notification of dll registration failure, I was given the
options to "retry", "ignore", and "cancel". I responded to each
notification with "Ignore". Following my last response to said
notification, addressing "ith641mi.dll", the installation process
summarily aborted, leaving me with the following system notification:

SOFFICE caused an invalid page fault in
module TL641MI.DLL at 0157:1c8233a8.

I do not know whether this is important, but just in case... one of
my reasons for electing OpenOffice.org was to replace my former
Office suite [ MS Office 97 Professional, Version 97.0.0.1117 (1033)
], which I inadvertantly lost through a sleepy-eyed, thick-fingered
error; I was installing an application, decided to change target
installation directory, changed my my mind once again, but forgot to
reset the installation programs default folder, totally erasing
EVERYTHING in my Program Files directory--BIG alligator tears!

In any event, after several days and nights of carefull work, I
managed to restore all of my programs/applications except: MS Office
97, MS PLUS!, and MS Publisher. I was not issued disks for these
programs when I purchased the computer; they were installed by the
computer vendor.

I relay this sad story only to offer the investigator another avenue
of search; it is possible that "something" necessary for the
installation of OPenOffice.org was lost during the foregoing debacle.

Since I am not a very big fan of Microsoft products anyway , I began
searching for another office suite that would be compatible with my
anachronistic system. Yours was the most appealing option, and so
here we are...

I would be most appreciative of any help or suggestions which might
(1) facilitate the completion of the installation of OpenOffice.org
or (2) failing that, allow me to painlessly ( without the tedium of
crawling through the registry item-by-item) uninstall that which has
thus far been installed.

I sincerely, appreciate you having shared with me a portion of your
time, and in closing, I am

Respectfully,

Jim Talon
