Yep - insert > object > forumula (when in writer) will insert a blank
forumula in writer. The other nifty option for use with forumulas (if
you also want them numbered) is to enter "fn" on a blank line and
select F3 (auto text).

A blank formula will be setup with numbering on the right hand side of the page.
