I assume you are using Windows. The installation process is three steps:
1. Download a large file from <www.openoffice.org>. This is the installer.
2. Run the installer. It "unpacks" ("explodes") itself into a folder of your choice containing many folders and files. 3. One of the files created by #2 above is the setup program. This normally runs *automatically* and actually installs OpenOffice in a folder of your choice, usually "c:\program files\openoffice...". In addition, it creates entries in your Start>All Programs menu in a group named Open Office.

Once all this has happened you ca delete the installer you downloaded. You can also delete the folder and all its contents from #2. The only things you need to keep are the folder from #3 and the All Programs group, also from #3.

I *think* that you are trying to use the stuff from #2. You can now see that this is a mistake and that you should be using the Start>All Programs menu just like with any other program you install. For more details please read the installation instructions linked to at the right of the download page <http://download.openoffice.org/index.html>. Documentation, including Getting Started guides is also linked to at the right of that same page.
