I'd like to be able to use OpenOffice but the only English version
listed
on
your download page is a US one. Is a UK English version available,
please?

Many thanks,

Alison Hoskins (Mrs)

Alison, a UK English version of OOo 3.0 RC1 is, in fact, available from
the
Tübingen (http://preview.tinyurl.com/5uydq6) and other mirrors. In the
event
you'd like to try it on a Windows machine, click the link above and then
scroll down to and click «

ftp://ftp.rz.tu-bs.de/pub/mirror/OpenOffice.org/extended/3.0.0rc1/OOo_3.0.0rc1_20080904_Win32Intel_langpack_en-GB.exe
».
You will then be asked to choose between saving the .exe file on your
machine or installing it directly....

Henri

Henri,

a) The OP is not subscribed so won't have seen your reply. Frankly I think
that's no bad thing.
I may now be doing the OP a severe injustice and I apologise unreservedly
to her if this turns out to be true but I get the distinct impression the OP
is a newbie to OOo and not very experienced with computers. Given that
b) I very much doubt the OP wants a non-commercial version of OOo.
c) The ftp site you pointed her at gives a list of 659 files. One of them,
right down near the bottom, looks like it might be what the OP wants but I
for one don't consider it adequate support to point a newbie at that list,
parsing someone's idea of meaningful file names, and let them hunt through
it trying to guess at what she might be looking for.

To cite a certain Harold Fuchs : «I don't want "clues". Nor does the OP of
this thread. A single link, please. ... One of them, right down near the
bottom, looks like it might be what the OP wants...»

That is precisely what I provided, with information on how to get to the
specific link on which to click and an explanation of the alternatives that
will then be presented. That OOo could do a better job of presenting links
to UK English versions of the office suite is undeniable, but my concern was
to help the OP and others on the list that might want access to this link.
Thank you for your courteous reception of my efforts !...

Henri
Henri,

You are right. I was not polite. I apologise. I was very cross. I was partly cross with the idea that the mainstream OOo web pages don't provide a link to a British English version of OOo but much more cross at being told - of course there is a British version, but not where to find it. I don't consider that helpful. - to Google for mirrors to provide clues. People asking for support don't want "clues".
That wasn't you.
