Came this utterance fomulated by amaloney to my mailbox:

US Letter is not widely used throughout the world with only the
Phillipines and Chile having it as an official standard outside the US,
though it is a customary size in both Canada and Mexico.

All templates that are available in A4 should easily convert if you add
0.3 cm to the left and right margins and subtract 0.92 cm from the top
and bottom margins.

A4 width = 21.00 cm
A4 height = 29.79 cm
Text width w 2cm margins = 17cm
Text height w 2cm margins = 25.79 cm

Letter width = 21.59 cm
Letter height = 27.94 cm
Text width w 2.3cm margins = 16.99 cm
Text height w 1.08 cm margins = 25.78 cm

I do however recommend highlighting the document and turning on widow
and orphan control first under "Format - Paragraph...".
