That's where double negatives come in useful - Try "...shouldn't not..."
in the above sentence. BTW, one of the mantra's going around in "touchy
feely" groups at present is that people don't really hear negatives (ie
"Don't touch, wet paint", "don't put cracked CD's in that 52x player")

I suppose that people also pay less attention to contractions. "do not touch" is probably more noticeable than "don't touch", and "do NOT touch" even more so.
