i still think it would be a great idea to enable OOo
to be able to save files in two formats at the same
time - its native format (good!) and the MSO format
(necessary evil for far too many people).

1. Name any other office suite that saves in two formats simultaneously.

2. You can post here until your fingers fall off, but the only way to have your idea fully evaluated is to file a Request for Enhancement (RFE). Then the folks responsible for the product development roadmap will have a trigger to take a look at it.

an MSO folder would be set up and all MSO version docs
should be saved there.

one would then always be able work in OOo native
formats. when forced to converse with the dark side
(in keeping w/ the movie times -lol-), one only needs
to go to that MSO folder to dance with the devil. otherwise, one has full access to OOo files.

this would, imho, GREATLY facilitate migration while
enabling future OOo file formats to eventually become
the standard.

OOo Version 2 uses the Open Document format which *is* a standard published for the use of everyone. This is vastly different from companies like M$ which try to leverage proprietary formats into de facto standards but are too <bleep>ing greedy to publish the format to facilitate other developers being able to interface with their product(s).

doesn't anyone else see the silliness in using OOo to
create *only* .doc, .xls, etc. files? many folks use
it this way. heck, i have to sometimes, too - and i
*hate* it. but i do it anyway - it is necessary. i'd
love to have an OOo file format version, but saving
twice is a bit redundant over time and not worth it.

I see the silliness as facilitating Microsoft's products. But I'm lucky. I rarely have to deal with M$O outputs so it is difficult for me to empathize with your apparent situation.

so, let's make it easy!

What you are proposing is to remove all motivation to "make the switch." I equate your argument with people who use nicotine patches to quit smoking. They're still getting their drug of choice, only the delivery system is different. That, and they just don't stink up the air so much.
