With a text file I created with Kate (which makes it a specific
Linux CR only and no LF) and I open it with Writer CTRL-f to do
replacement, no matter how many I enter as spaces (1 to N) in the
Replace With area, it does 4 spaces.
Not having your set-up, I cannot comment on this - except to say that
I can replace with other than four spaces in my 3.0 for Windows
XP. But I can say that it is difficult to think of any situation
where having consecutive spaces is a Good Idea in a word processor
document. Your solution may be to find a better way of achieving
what you actually need.
If I create a file inside of Writer, and manually enter tabs and
then go to replace them, it cannot find the tabs to replace
them. This is with either highlighting the tab or with doing a
selection and entering it into the Search For.
This is simpler, as you are not going about this the right way. The
way to search for tabs is to click More Options in the Find & Replace
dialogue and then tick "Regular expressions". You can then use \t to
represent a tab character in either the "Search for" or "Replace with" box.
I trust this helps.
