OK, I spent some more time looking at this. In an empty document, I can
crash OOo by typing the following:

<tab><tab><space>

As soon as I press the space bar, OOo crashes.

Hmm, now that seems odd.

OK, found it. It was the Language Tool Spell checker add-on version 0.9.4. I
installed this while writing some articles for Linux Identity on OOo.

There is a note that claims that there is a bug in OOo that causes some
items to crash. The underlying API in OOo is new and to my knowledge, still
under development. I know for certain (meaning I was told by developers)
that it was not yet finished when the 3.0 code was frozen.

Wow!

I tried out your <crash_ooo.odt> with OOo 3.0.0 [OOO300m9 Build 9358] /
WinXP / LanguageTool 0.9.5.

OOo didn't crash and my results are documented in
<crash_ooo_annotated.odt> [209 KB]

-> <http://cjoint.com/data/ltxyzLvUqG.htm>

As far as I know, the grammar check function should work fine with
OOo 3.0.1.

Excellent, so they have a fix or workaround in the latest language tool. This does not surprise me. The people responsible for LanguageTool are pretty pro-active. I installed the latest version, and it did not crash. Very nice!

I am surprised that the auto-update stuff did not tell me that a new version was available.
