Apply a style without a page number to the page in question. Apply
the style with
the page number to the rest of your document. Use section breaks to
accomplish this.
On the latter section, apply an ofset to the page number to make it
read correctly.
I may be wrong, but I think the comment about the textbox was just an
indication that one might obliterate a page number on the page(s) where
it wasn't wanted. One could equally well use a white rectangle shape
from the graphics palette. (View | Toolbars | Drawing if the toobar
isn't visible; click on the rectangle shape; click-and-drag in the
document to insert it, then R-click on it and select line (invisible)
and area (white, probably) in turn to make the rectangle the same colour
as the page. Probably best to position it first though :-)

Thanks. It *is* effective. I feel better now that I have a solution to
fall back to if I don't find a proper one. (Thanks also for indicating
how to open a toolbar. I am new to OOo and there are quite a few more
new things I have to learn.)
