Hello John,
It works exactly the way you describe and as it was designed ...
excepting that you miss the second "special X" at the right site of the
menu bar ... where it exists for me.
So the question is: which version you use ? An official OOo 3.0 build
contains such special closer X.
Regards
Andreas
BTW: The feature is: if you close the last open document window normaly
(dont using the special X) it will close the whole application. A
quickstart module (as it exists on windows) can hinder the office on
real shutdown only. If you use the special X at the menu bar ... it will
reuse the last window and open the StartCenter inside ... where you
can start to open new or existing documents. But an office process
without any UI (no document window nor any quickstart module) makes no
sense and isnt supported by OOo.
In OOo 2.4.1 there was an X at the right top corner of the document
window as well as an X in the right top corner of the application
window. Clicking on the one in the document window closed the open
document leaving the application running. Or you could also close the
document window and leave the application running by going to File >
Close.
In 3.0 the X in the document window is missing. There is still a File >
Close (as well as File > Exit), but clicking on File > Close is the
same as clicking on File > Exit; that is, it shuts down the
application. Also, you can go to Window > Close Window, which should
close the document window and leave the application running, but it
also closes the application.
Is it a bug that File > Close exits the application? Or is this an
interface option that I can fix to make it the way it was in 2.4.1? Or
am I stuck with this?
