It's pretty obvious that the blogger simply hasn't turned on 'Optimal'.
With the exception of the 1/2" page spacer vs the dotted line, the views
are identical. I have two systems side-by-side, both with the same
document on the screen; one with MS Word 2002 'Normal View' and one with
OOo 2.4.2 (also tested with OOo 3.0.1pre) and the presentation is
identical with the exception of the mentioned page spacer.
In OOo I can even turn off either vertical & horizontal scroll bars and
vertical and horizontal rulers. The text of the document goes the screen
width (to the margin settings). So, I guess that I'm missing something
re the blog as well as http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=4914
as I'm looking at 2 screens as I type this and I honestly don't see what
the issue is.
Here is a telling comment from the Issue tracker entry:
On the other hand, if I'm only interested in the text at this stage, I'd rather
follow the text flow. In MS Word, I'd select the "Normal" view, and be
dispensed with the rendition of columns.
Then there is the difference in how graphics are displayed?
Turn off headers and footers in the display (don't toss the content
however).
Look I really didn't want to get into a discussion on this.
For one thing I don't believe there is a way to duplicate that display
mode in OO.o - you can get close but not duplicate it - certainly not
with a single mouse click.
For another, I don't have MSO 2008 so I can't say what the good folks at
Microsoft have done with "Normal View" either. Maybe it's gone for all I
know.
