Hey Russel,

I can't open the program at all....so I can't go in to figure out which
version I have. I do know that I have a Mac OS X 10.4.11/PPC G4 powerbook

I would like to delete the whole program and try reinstalling the version
that doesn't need X11 to run

I have had the same trouble as Don Ward described on his e mail.....(copied
below at bottom) When it was working I noticed it was very slow and was very
frustrating to use with any other programs open (I am about to upgrade my
memory- I think that will help)....I am wondering if having a version that
doesnt need X11 will help my computer run faster(once opened at least?), and
just be easier all around?

What I think I would like to do is delete the open office(version2.??) and
X11 I have now, and then install Open Office 3.0

I guess my questions are:

1. Could someone tell me how to delete OpenOffice (the version I have now)
and X11 from my computer? (I am new to Macs, the one I have now I bought
used from a friend so I have no office programs, or instruction manuals).

2. Open office, once downloaded doesn't expire like a trial period would,
does it? My guess is I deleted something when I was clearing off my desktop
(where is where everything I download sits)

3. Could you please send me a link to a OOo 3.0 download site?

Thanks for your help!
Jen

Hello Don,

I work with OpenOffice.org 3.0 on Intel Macs as well as on a PPC G4
PowerBook. OOo 3 doesn't need X11 any more, so it's a lot less cumbersome,
but the first start takes always a bit longer because it's an integrated
suite, you load Writer as well as Calc as well as Base as well as Impress in
one go.

I don't see OOo 3.0.0 for PPC at the main page (
http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#en-US)
maybe because there weren't enough people to test it, but you can always
find a working copy at good-day:

I advise you to install the OOo 3.0.1 RC2 that fixes some bugs from the
3.0.0 (the first to work natively on Mac, without X11).
http://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/3.0.1rc2/
look for the PowerPC further down the list, US-english is the one without
language specification:
http://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/3.0.1rc2/OOo_3.0.1rc2_MacOSXPowerPC_install.dmg

(link may be broken in two lines to fit on your screen)

If it doesn't work, come back here with specific questions.
