I know many a person that do not know where their original CDs are for the software, drivers, and everything else that they bought to go on their computer. I always ask people do you know where your . . . . and ask them to have them out and ready for me to use. Even after that, I come there and no software CDs. I try to get them to give me exact model numbers of their printers and other stuff that are plugged into the computer(s) so I can download the newest drivers, via broadband, before I go to their place instead of getting there and having to download them via slow dial up account, if they still have those disks. I love OpenOffice.org and even if I am to reinstall MS Office, I ask them if I can install OOo as well. I tell them that it is a great way to get their DOC documents into a PDF format. The trouble is a lot of people will not pay for a tech guy just sit there waiting for the software to install. MS Office took several times that of OpenOffice.org, or at least last time I did a full install of both - November 2008 - MS Office 2003 pro and OOo 3.0.0. So, OpenOffice.org installs faster than MS's "product" (at least twice as fast). OOo 338 meg in Program Files folder, while MS Office takes 375Meg. So, OOo takes less space to install Plus it has options, add-ons/extensions, and many other stuff that MS does not have or support. Why go elsewhere? Maybe the tech person was a gorilla warrior for OOo. Tim L. retired and tired of MS. and installs OOo on every PC that I am able to.
