So, yesterday, there is available an update for OO from 3.0 to 3.0.1. I'm
interested, and I go to the site to read about it, and, ...
... I cannot log in. OO site says, somehow, that my username and password are
invalid. In other words, they have no record of me (apparently) having
registered as a user.

Hi there Elgin;
I wonder if you are talking about the Log In at the upper right hand
side of the www.openoffice.org web site. That is not something us
users to use. I never tired to login to that system, but it is not
needed to be able to download the updates.

This is the address of the standard download page. Just click on the
"Download OpenOffice.org" words/button to start the standard Windows
install file. That is what I did.
By the way
I have MS Office 2003, which I had for a long while. I need to keep
it installed, for those few clients that still use Word, Excel, etc..
I almost never use it. I will never pay for a MS product again, if
I have any say about it. I had to pay for Vista with my laptop, but
I use every Free and/or Open Source software I can find. I even have
a list of free software on my personal domain.
You will love OOo 3.0.1 software. When you use it regularly, you will
enjoy it more than you ever would with Word.
Hopefully you will be able to download it fine. If not, please feel
free to send us another email.
