The reason that you cannot delete it as you would other items is that
it is not a separate element of your document but simply a bottom
border associated with the paragraph immediately above it.
What causes this?
If, at the start of a paragraph, you type three or more similar
characters from this list:
- _ = * ~ #
and then press Enter, what you have typed will be replaced by a
border associated with the preceding paragraph. Try them out and you
will see the different designs of border produced.
How do I get rid of this?
Various ways:
o Go to Tools | AutoCorrect... | Options, and remove the tick from
"Apply border". This will prevent the conversion in the first place.
o If you catch it immediately, go to Edit | Undo (or Ctrl+Z) to undo
the correction but leave what you actually typed.
o Put the cursor somewhere in the paragraph above and then go to
Format | Paragraph... | Borders (or right-click | Paragraph... |
Borders). Under Line arrangement | Default, click the left-hand Set
No Borders button.
