Over the last few days I've noticed an increase in the number of replies which will not be seen by the questioner because the questioner is not subscribed to this list and the reply has not been sent explicitly to the questioner.
Therefore it seems to be time once again to remind folk answering questions in this list that if an unsubscribed person asks a question s/he will *not* see the reply unless his/her e-mail address is explicitly included in its To:, cc: or bcc: list. The *only* way to tell the status of the questioner is to look at the "Delivered To:" header(s) of the question. The user is *subscribed* if and only if there is *no* header saying "Delivered-To: moderator for [email protected]". The user is *unsubscribed* if such a header does exist. Some mail readers (notably Thunderbird and notably *not* Outlook Express) can be configured to "filter" on the "Delivered To:" header and, thus, to be able *automatically* to highlight/flag messages from unsubscribed posters. This makes life easier. Dotan Cohen's recent request would make life *much* easier but ... As far as I can tell most *news* readers can't filter on the "Delivered To:" header. This makes life harder for people reading this list (and wishing to reply) via Gmane. -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected]
