As far as I can tell most *news* readers can't filter on the

I'm testing the new pre-released version of SeaMonkey (2.0a3pre) and
filters can be set on email and newsreader headers. Unfortunately, the
headers from Gmane (don't know about regular email) for moderated msgs
include two 'Delivered-To' headers:
Delivered-To: mailing list [email protected]
Delivered-To: moderator for [email protected]
in that order. The filter sees the first 'Delivered-To', doesn't find
'moderator' and thinks it's job is done. So it goes on to the next
filter. Perhaps if the headers were reversed:
Delivered-To: moderator for [email protected]
Delivered-To: mailing list [email protected]
the filter would work, as it would then see 'moderator' in the first
instance, and trigger the filter actions.
In Thunderbird, when you create a filter, you *separately* select the
*type* of header (in this case "Delivered To:") and its value (in this
case "moderator for ..."). The type and value can be connected by any
one of the "operators": contains, doesn't contain, is, is not, begins
with, ends with. So, for example, one can ask for a filter on the
"Delivered To:" header containing the value "moderator".
I'm surprised the new Seamonkey doesn't have this facility as I
thought it was based on TB.

Unfortunately Thunderbird does not allow you to customize the
filters for news the way it does email. If it did would make my life a
lot easier as I am one of those that both reads and replies to post via
gmane. Having that would be a godsend.
