I am using OpenOffice 1.1.4 as a substitute for MS Word. My word processing
involves sorting large amounts of alphanumeric data as well as designing html
documents. I used MS Word's table function extensively for both purposes.
However, I have found that OpenOffice 1.1.4 has very limited table functions.
This version of OpenOffice does not allow me to make tables as complicated as
the ones I can make with MS Word. I have been told that OpenOffice 2 offers a
great deal of improvement over version 1.1.4. I need to know if version 2 will
allow me to design tables in a way that a table cell can overlap multiple rows.
I want to create a table that has two columns with each column alternating
between a small and large cell. I want the large cells in each column to be
aligned with the small cells in the other column. Will OpenOffice 2 allow such
an arrangement and how do I go about obtaining a copy of version 2?

Thank you,

Jon Arnett
