In addition to the above valuable advice, please be aware that OpenOffice can open and save spreadsheets in Excel (xls) format. This means that after exporting the data from Tally 9 you *might* be able to open the xls file in OpenOffice and use it. I say *might* because OpenOffice is not 100% compatible with Excel - each can do things the other cannot.
