Doing so may be more productive because it would provide them information they presumably don't have already, illustrate that useful functions are available in OOo and provide the knowledge how to do it. And as you note it would demonstrate an audience for OOo. If someone is already earning income from writing they may see such a message and think to themselves, "Hmm, here's an under served market I can enter."
