You can say that again! One of the ways open source and even companies
like Sun etc. are encouraged to continue supporting open software is the
donations people make. I absolutely LOVE free software, but ... when
it's something I end up using every day and would really miss, I always
find a way to donate something, not often as much as I wish I could, but
a little something at least, to help their coffers.
I've tried a lot of software in my day and even pirated software
sometimes, but if/when I decide it's a useful app they do get my money.
It's really a pleasure nowadays to toss a couple tens at a gpl licensed
product, OO.o included, whenever I can afford it, and plan to continue
to use the apps long term. I would have no problem if something like
OO.o went pay-for as long as it was a good price, and upgrades were
always easy to get for small fees. In fact, that has happened already in
a couple of places that provide OO.o as the basis for value-added
products.
IMO the money is writing good software isn't in the apps th emselves:
It's in suporting and adding value to/for it. It also allows for the
mom&pop s to come back into existence and an entrepreneur's dream.

But enough rambling - sorry 'bout that! <g>

Cheers,

Twayne
