And in doing so you hijacked this thread. To ask a new question start a
new thread. DO NOT respond to a previous post and just change the
subject line.

What's the diff?
Who's the moderator?
What does s/he have to say?

I see this as such a petty argument that I can hardly believe it's
happening.

Many people use mail readers that provide topic threading based on part of the message header. When a thread/message is "hijacked", that threading is broken, and there ends up being two conversations in a single thread.

The new message is lost in the old message thread by those that use threaded email readers (eg Thunderbird)... and the new question that was raised is often totally lost in the flurry of "hey, you broke the thread" messages. As well, the original question is often also lost in the flurry... so both parties loose out.

Just make a note of it that in all mailing lists, as a matter of etiquette, you should always start a completely new message with its own threading for a new topic. That's all people here are really asking for.

To do so is actually not too hard even if you don't remember the list address... you can open an existing message, and in most mail readers, you should be able to Right-click on the To: field and select Compose Mail To or something similar. This will start a new message... no need to reply and change topic.

I hope this helps clarify things a little here :-)
