Came this utterance formulated by Wade Smart to my mailbox:

If you tried and still not get unsubscribed then there are a few
things to try.
1) find the email that was sent to you when you subscribed and make
sure your current email and the subscribed email are the SAME email.
2) create a filter in your mail client:
if FROM = [email protected] DELETE
I wouldn't do step 2 here. It does not really solve anything. On POP
you still have to downlad the unwanted emails. So i do not call this
good advice.
More important than this i would make sure to reply to the automated
email sent from the server once the unsubscribe request has been made.

The second is good advice if you a) dont want to deal with the emails
and b) CANNOT! get off the list. When there is no one to contact and you
dont want the emails - that is a option.
Adding to that second one - IF your ISP has webmail you can setup a
filter there and never have to download it.
