It would appear that on Aug 4, Larry Gusaas did say:

Pardon me for intruding Larry, But as a gmane user I've noticed that at
the bottom of each message in gmane.comp.openoffice.questions, there
is a list management info link that alpine displays as:

=> [ Note: This message contains email list management information ]

inside of which this link:

=> * A method to send a message to the entire list (Post).
=>
=> Select HERE to post a message.

leads alpine to display this confirmation message.

=> Compose mail to "[email protected]" ?

Since this mailing list accepts mail from non-subscribers, a mouse
centric gmane user might well click his way to bypassing the gmane
posting method.

I know I've seen a lot of effort being put into advising people that
someone isn't subscribed... In fact I seem to remember that my first
posting caused some confusion. I would suggest that when an
unsubscribed person is only answered in the list, and the OP doesn't
follow up with "however they discovered the list in the first place"
it's "their bad"... The "in" list reply is being archived and someone
else with a similar issue may benefit from it.

But instead of using so much precious effort from those like
yourself trying to compensate for well meaning members who don't
notice when to Cc: the OP directly, perhaps a generic automatic
reply might be sent to all unsubscribed posts that advises them that
they do not appear subscribed to the list. That as a courtesy their
message was posted anyway but that some replies might only be posted
to the list and that they should therefore either subscribe or monitor
the list via a mirror such as gmane, that if they're tired of recieving
this message every time they post they should either post from an email
account that is subscribed to the list itself. or use gmane's usenet
posting method...

It's just an idea. But I'd hate to see such a kind hearted helpful soul
such as yourself reach burnout from the seemingly endless task of all
these manual intervention discussions...
