A few things.First of all, through the control panel you can define which
program to use to open a word document.
Second, it looks like that, when you resaved the documents, they were
probably saved in Open Office native format rather than on a Word
format.Make sure that you save them using the "save as" and choose Word.
Open Office can also be configured to save all word processing document (ie,
Writer documents) on Word format.
If you remember the folder you saved the lost document, go into it and check
if it is still there, albeit not as a word document.
