Curiouser and curiouser.
Deleted the offending path altogether. Shut down the app.
Restarted it. Tried a new doc w template. It keeps looking for the non-existent path. Re-added the path, now correctly. Tried to start a newdoc with a template, and it keeps looking for templates in the now utterly non-existent list.

What else could be going on?

recently changed a directory, namely the location of the template directory. I changed the paths under options, so it is set correctly, yet, when I try to launch a new file with a template, i first starts looking for the file under the old path which has long since been deleted. So there must be some other place besides the Options where it maintains a record of the paths? What is it?

If I remember right you will have to delete the templates from the template list and then add the templates from the new folder. Once the templates have been added to the list the path will remain pointed to the old folder. It is not automatically updated.
