Has anybody managed to import a Works 8 database into Base? I have

Works 8 can save a database file as a CSV file or as a dBase 4 file,
or in its own default format.
You don't mention one important fact: whether you still have access
to a copy of Works. But since you mention what Works can do in the
way of saving, I suspect you do. There are two techniques, I think:
o From Works, save copies in dBase (*.dbf) or "Text & Commas
(*.csv)" format. Then create a new Base database, in the first panel
of the Database Wizard select "Connect to an existing database",
scroll down to dBASE or Text, and browse to your database copy. Your
new Base database will be able to access the data from your old
database. You can continue to access the data like this or else copy
the data into new tables.
o Alternatively, create a new Base database and open a new Calc
spreadsheet document. Open your database in Works, copy the records,
and paste them into the Calc spreadsheet. Then immediately copy the
material from the Calc spreadsheet. In the Base database, click
Tables in the left panel. Then right-click in the Tables area at the
bottom of the window and choose Paste. This brings up the "Copy
table" dialogue, where you can set the parameters of your new database table.
I trust this helps.
