While checking out the Format Paintbrush I found that I could add it to the pull down menu instead. (I like keyboard shortcuts, But there are only so many I can remember at once. So I like keyboardable menus and hotkeys that are only active when their on screen reminders are in place better. Though perhaps if I defined a shortcut like you recommend, it might be possible to hit twice to set it up for multiple use. > But I suspect you have to use the mouse to paint the formatting. Except that there isn't an on screen clue to remind me which keystroke it is. It's not the kind of function that I'm likely to use on a daily basis.
