When you select the text, right click on the text. A pop-up menu
list "Character" as well as "Paragraph" and "Page" styles.
Sorry, but this doesn't answer the question: those items in the
context menu do something different.
o The Page... item allows you to modify the current page style, but
without creating a new one.
o The Character... and Paragraph... items allow you to modify the
character and paragraph properties of the selected text and the
paragraph containing it respectively - without any effect on
character or paragraph *styles*.
o Note also the Edit Paragraph Style... item: this allows you to
modify the current paragraph style - again without creating a new one.
