When I first started using Linux (about the first of this year), I set

something happened (I have not been able to determine what) and I could
no longer access Windows.
I think you might get more appropriate help in the http://ubuntuforums.org
Here's what Google throws up on your problem. I'm presuming you're using
grub to dual boot:

I used to run a dual boot and can't remember that I ever had a problem.
My only reason for still wanting Windows is that there are three
programs that I have not been able to find good substitutes for:
Quicken (to be able to download transactions from my bank
weekly)
Street Atlas (for planning trips and working with GPS)
Photoshop (for heavy-duty photo manipulation)
Once you get used to the weird interface (my opinion), The Gimp does
just about anything one can do in Photoshop.
The other two, I don't know. Although a friend frequently complains that
there's no Quicken for Linux. And Linux business software, OOo aside, is
at best pretty ordinary (again, My Opinion).
Cheers
