We've been using Openoffice on 50+ computers in our office for the last
9 years (since version 1.0), and never simply 'not been able to save a
document' - unless someone was trying to save it to a network location
that they didn't have write access to.

If you would provide more details about your particular setup/problem,
maybe someone could help you figure out what you are doing wrong?
