Thanks for continuing to work with me on this. It is very frustrating!

Good catch, I missed that somehow.

Becky, if you are having the same problem in Word, then this is likely
an OS/permissions problem... maybe some malware or something...
In word, I had a permissions problem, but I've never had this problem of
not saving. The permissions problem prevented me from loading & reading
Word documents. It was a trial version of Word that came with the computer.
I'm wondering if there was something wrong with it that might be affecting
Open Office.... I have uninstalled it and will be installing my older
version of Word when I return home.

I would recommend downloading/installing/updating and then running a full
scan with something called Malwarebytes (free for home use):

www.malwarebytes.org

Be sure to update it after installing it, then run the FULL scan (not
the quick one).
I will download and run malwarebytes. I have already uninstalled,
re-downloaded and re-installed Open office. No change in the situation with
that
change.

Otherwise, a repair install might be in order, which is too involved to
go into here, but you won't lose any data or have to reinstall any
applications, you'll just have to reinstall any/all windows updates.
I wish I'd known you could do that a few months ago....

I'm getting packed to leave my Dad's in FL and head back to the mountains
and the snow. I might not get the malwarebytes downloaded and run
tomorrow, so be patient. I'll be back to let you know what happened.

Thanks to you all for your help!!
Beckie
