My problem sounds simple but there is a gremlin in the system that makes it
send me both the digest version, which I want and desire and need, and the
hourly almost individual emails which I like and appreciate but distract me

You've apparently subscribed both to the list and to its digest, so you
need to unsubscribe from the list. Send a message to
[email protected]; subject and
content don't matter, just the address. You should soon get a
confirmation message; follow its instructions, and your subscription to
the list (but not to the digest) should be canceled, and you will then
get a "Goodbye" message.
