Sofar I've received no suggestions on this, but I'm still looking for a solution.

Specifically OOW keeps looking for a OO 1.1.3 path, where it expects to find these templates, but there is no such path. It was physically deleted from disk a long time ago, when I upgraded to 3.0, and moreover I can find no parameter that actually points to such a path, yet somewhere there must be one.

Does anybody know please?

Subject: template directory problems...

Some time ago I upgraded to versions 3.0 and beyond and I tried to change
the directory for the templates.

I have changed the Paths information pointing to the templates, but still
it keeps reporting to me that it cannot find the templates, and give me
error messages saying:

quote
Error opening document:
[path name...] does not exist.
unquote

and it points to some old path, which it's not even pointing to in the
path configuration for templates.

Ergo, there must be some other hidden place where it is secretly still
pointing to an old directory for the templates, but I cannot find out
where. After I click through all of those errors, it ends up pointing to
the actual current template directory.

Hi Rogier

As no one else has made any suggestions, I'll have a go:

You don't say what OS you are using, but often this sort of problem can be fixed by renaming the user's directory - in my ubuntu system ~/.openoffice.org/

In Windows it's something like \Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\user\

On restarting OOo a new profile will be built and the template directory can be set in that. You can probably copy over any vital configuration settings from the renamed directory.

Just remember to close and reopen OOo to reread the changed configuration.
