Can someone please try to duplicate this? The problem occurs in

you can explain why it is doing it.
sample file: lockie.ca/test/receipt_list.ods.zip
steps to reproduce:
1. select cell C11
2. type =sum(
3. select B3 to B9 with the mouse
4. Press return
5. Aug 17, 1916 is displayed but $6,074.52 was expected
This is no problem: the spreadsheet is behaving as it is intended
to. The values in your column B are not currency amounts but
numbers; they display as currency amounts only because the column is
formatted that way. Likewise, the values in column C are also
numbers, but this time display as dates because the column has been
formatted as date. When you sum the numbers in column B you get a
number for the sum. Placed in column B, this displays as a currency
amount, as you expect; in column C, the same value displays as a
date, since C11 (along with the rest of column C) has been formatted as date.
If you format C11 as currency, either before or after you insert the
formula, you will see the result you desire.
I trust this helps.
