It would appear that on Feb 1, Joe Smith did say:

First let me say that setting this via Brian's method worked... Then let me
say thank you for telling me about the right-click method. Though for
assorted reasons (some certainly personal aberrations) I NEVER find mouse
based methods easy to remember. And sometimes I find them hard to do.
Though I'll admit if I only have to get the pointer to stay somewhere
within the entire table while I do a right click, This one wouldn't be
functionally difficult to do. But I hates rodents so much that I'm more
likely to use Brian's method anyway...

Hmmnnn I just looked. And from Writer (at least in OO.o v 2.4) I don't have
an "Format > AutoCorrect" There is an "Format > AutoFormat" that has an
"while typing" option... I just turned it off... And when I look from
within calc, I don't find either one of the above... What I usually wind up
doing when I install a new linux is "tools > AutoCorrect > options" and
deselect everything, one option at a time. But I have to do this in BOTH
writer AND calc. Separately...

Yeah, that sounds likely.

That depends on how you think. I type what I mean. Sometimes I mistype but
those are usually found by spell check. The fact that some automatic feature
thinks I want something else and automatically tries to help me usually has
one of two outcomes. A) it changes something and I didn't notice the change
and now it no longer says what I dang well meant it to. Or B) I notice the
change and become so frustrated with having to find a way to undo the
autochange that I forget the rest of what I'd been about to write.

(I'm not sure which ticks me off more)

Actually I'd like to leave most of those auto-conversion features semi-enabled.
That is if <F7> does a spell check, let <ctrl>+<F7> do a scan document for
possible
conversion targets (now that my mind isn't in the middle of composing) and (just
like spell check) ONLY SUGGEST each change with the option to say yes, no,
always,
and never. And I'd also want an unconvert scan where it offers to change any "ΒΌ"
back into "1/4" etc... BUT I ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER want my software to
interrupt me
while I'm typing, (and therefore trying to compose my thoughts) to arbitrarily
make
changes and/or make me decide on the fly if I want to accept it's suggestion(s).

It's gotta be the way I'm wired. I prefer to drive a standard transmission
because I don't like the durned car trying to second guess when I want it
to downshift... Not that I'm always happy with my choicees, But at least I
know they WERE my choices...

Still, thanks again for the clue about the "auto-format > while typing"
option... I just wish it was a global option.
