Why would you try an older version first?

Impress is Openoffice.org's weakest component - always has been.

That said, if Microsoft itself can't even get perfect comparability
between different versions of its own software, imagine how much more
difficult it is for 3rd parties. I think OOo does a great job, and
anytime formatting is broken, I blame MS...
