Well, answering the first question--the suggested version for Windows 95
is 1.0.3 (legacy version) which can be found at:
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/1.0.3/index.html
That version can open files created with 1.1.x, but it lacks the PDF
export option and a few other tweaks found in the 1.1.x releases.
