Actually, I don't know of any right now. I remember there *was* a project a few years ago for a Linux based open source accounting package, but I haven't kept up to see if anything happened on it. A couple of things make accounting more troublesome--first, the localization issues would be nasty here, since there are subtle but very important differences from country to country, especially where the tax system interfaces with the accounting system. Just in the U.S., the differences in the various state tax systems create a need for a number of different modules for each of the 50 states. Some states require separate support for sales tax (including states like Arizona where localities operate under rules different than the state) and payroll tax issues, with law changes that can occur at any time. And that's a single country and tax matters <grin>.

Add to that some differences in accounting matters themselves for different countries and things get real complicated.
