Do you mean *saved* using the:
" File - Templates - Assign template (folder)... "
option? (meaning "Save the current template as <new name>.")
No, this is used to select the directory that has documents that you
wish to update the styles of.
In other words you have a document, either blank or with limited text,
open in Writer. You wish to keep the styles for other documents. You
can say it back to the disk as an *.ott or *.odt and reopen it every
time or you can use File > Template > Save so that OOo saves it in the
Template section.
And to assign that to the current document one would use the
"File - Templates - Assign template (current document)"
option?
(If that means "Assign <new name> template to current document")
Ok, let me try it this way.
(1) I have templates from the oooauthors site for the Documentation
project. I save these by using File > Template > Save, giving them a
name that I choose. These can be .OTT or .ODT files that are opened in
Writer.
(2) I start a new document from the File > New > Text Document it uses
all the default styles. After getting started I decide that I want to
use the OOo 3 Chapter template. I can should be able to change the
styles of the current document to OOo 3 Chapter styles. In this case I
would have to manually update what has been done to the new styles, as
the names of the styles are different than the Default styles.
(3) I have several documents that I downloaded and have done some work
on. A new/ updated version of the template is uploaded on the
oooauthors web site. I download the template and load it in Writer. I
save the template (File > Template > Save) with a different name. I
would use the "File - Template - Assign template (current document) to
change the template and styles without having to reload each just to
update the styles.
